3 Tips to Make “Happiness Happen” in Business and Life

You probably know by now that I love wacky holidays, uncommon celebrations, and thought-provoking observances.  Well it just so happens that August is also “Happiness Happens” Month.  Isn’t that such a refreshing thought?  I’m sure we’ve all seen  “sh*t happens” t-shirts and bumper stickers around, as if we need reminders that bad things happen.  When, truthfully, that’s the last thing we need to focus on.  Happiness happens but it doesn’t happen unless you make a conscious decision and take action to make it happen.  This is true in business and in life.

Here are my top 3 tips for making happiness happen in your business and life:

  1. Do what you love.  I know I say this all the time, but it truly is the key to living a happy life.  I once heard a researcher on happiness say that only about 10% of your happiness is dependent on your circumstances (ie, bad things that may have happened, your personality, genetics, etc.).  The rest of it depends on you doing activities that you love.  It is so very important for you to incorporate the things that you love into your business and personal life.  Build your business and life around your unique genius, interests, passions, and talents.  If you do this, it’s hard not to be happy.
  2. 2.       Spend  time with people you love.  Most people would love to spend more time with friends and family.  As entrepreneurs, we actually have a lot of freedom when it comes to spending time with the people we love.  Be very intentional about how you spend your time.  If you find yourself saying, “I’m too busy” a lot, you’re probably not working as efficiently and effectively as you could be.  Don’t waste your time with people who drain energy from you—choose your clients and acquaintances wisely. Life is too short to spend it with energy-suckers.
  3. 3.       Adopt a “Make Happiness Happen” Mindset.  Like I said before, you have to choose to be happy and then you have to take actions that are aligned with your happiness.  You can’t sit around hoping and wishing for happiness.  You have to live happiness each and every day.  Sure, poop happens, but when you’re truly determined to be happy, you won’t get stuck in it.

Happiness is all about living in integrity– being true to yourself and whatever it is that makes you tick.  Follow these 3 tips and make happiness happen!

This posting really resonates with me, Tiffany because I just finished writing my September newsletter all about What Do You Love? I’m on board with you about how focusing on what you love helps you life the life you really want to live. Love the idea of “making happiness happen.” That’s what life is all about!

“Happiness is all about living in integrity…” What a great statement. Too Many entrepreneurs do not realize that happiness is a result fo their own choices and decisions. A business coach friend of mine – who works with small to medium sized bus. owners – told me a story about one such: He had allowed the business he started around something he loved to run him. His comment to my friend was, “I have made it a job.” He closed his business not long after.

Thanks for these 3 great tips!

Tiffany, thanks! Your comments were very validating to a decision I just had to make within the last week in the business world. Far better to be with people who are happy and who make you happy than the other kind!

Tiffany: Thanks for the tweet and FB post.
I agree that mindset is very important. You get what you expect. That’s why “stuff’ seems to happens to some people all the time. They are getting what they want (or fear). Setting your expectations is key to how you approach both your life and your business.
